Clapham Personal Training: Your goals for the next 12 months

Janaury is often the time for new resolutions and goals, the old horrible year is behind us and the fresh new one ahead, lots to look forward to and tonnes to achieve. So why do so many people fail to make it past the first month?

People love an excuse, and they like to have circumstances to blame for why they haven’t hit their goal. It could be the weather, your job, your partner, your commute, your diary, your dog, etc., the list can go on and on. So how can you make sure you are where you want to be come January 2019?

Well first of all actually set one singular goal, one massive goal that will make the biggest difference in your life, it doesn’t have to be health and fitness related it could be work, family, relationship or any other aspect you want to change that will have a big impact on your day to day life for the rest of your life.

Most people fail to do this, they don’t make themselves a crystal clear vision of where they want to be, so they don’t know the steps that need to be taken to achieve their goal. Take some time out to sit down and plan a SMART goal, we went over this a few years ago in this post, check it out.

The main thing you need to do is be mindful of your actions, your daily tasks create habits and they will either help or hinder your end goal. Do not zone out and go into autopilot as you will do what you did before and move back to your comfort zone.

Take action, take responsibility and remember if you do mess up, its ok, there are still another 50 weeks left of 2018 and another 354 days so just relax, you can go again. You need to make sure you focus on the small percentages, the 1% change done consistently over the year will always win over a big 10% jump for 1 month. Try not to focus on perfect because it isn’t attainable and it will lead to setting unrealistic targets.

Remember consistency, commitment and persistence are the keys to success, try to focus on those 3 words rather than perfection.
